Parkinson's Law

Work expands in proportion to the amount of time allotted to it.

  • This means that we must keep our own deadlines to a minimum and create some sense of urgency in order to complete our tasks as quickly as possible.
  • This also implies that most of the time, we are not procrastinating or being lazy; rather, the time allotted is simply too long for us to exert additional effort.
  • This explains why, due to the illusion of deadlines, we put things off only to cram them in on the due date.
