Haiku-

A poetic writing style that is Japanese in origin. Haikus first emerged in Japanese writing during the 17th century. Traditional haikus are written with 3 lines. The three lines follow a syllable structure of 5 - 7 - 5.

The subjects of haikus are generally anything that can be observed in nature, even though there are exceptions to this definition that exist in Japanese literature.

Modern Interpretation

With the dawn of modern writing conventions, haikus do not have to strickly be 5 - 7 - 5 in its syllable structure, even though many writers still use this format.

Subjects do not have to strickly be about observing nature. There are many acceptable exceptions that can be found in modern writing, including subjects like self awarness, inanimate objects, ephemeral objects, emotions, etc.
