Don't Ignore The Sick

I recently sought help for a street dog (I named her Seeti because she always comes running at the sound of my whistle) who had TVT, a type of life-threatening cancer. I called up a vet in my area who directed me to Bark India Charitable Trust . Their volunteers came within 24hrs to pick Seeti up, started her on chemotherapy, and dropped her back in no time. She’s been recovering very well ever since.

You can check the We For Animals listing to find such organizations. You can also check People For Animals registered units and hospitals on their websites .

Contribute What You Can

Don’t have the time to cater to your neighborhood dogs? Try helping out those doing great work for the voiceless by donating and sponsoring whatever you can.

In the past few years, I have regularly donated to a bunch of individual stray dog caregivers in Bangalore like Ayyappa Kolluru , Sanjana Narendra , Nabanita Chakraborty , and Tanya Singh , to name a few.

Educate Yourself

I’ve been skimming through this comprehensive Pet Vaccines Directory at WebMD to educate myself about vaccinations that dogs usually need.

Additionally, you can familiarise yourself with animal-protection laws in India so you can combat prejudices set against them. You can easily access this type of information on the websites of theAnimal Welfare Board of India and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change .

Take cruelty personally

Back in 2020, soon after moving to a new area in Bangalore, I spotted a dog howling on a neighboring house’s terrace. I thought the owners might have left him there for a couple of hours. Turns out, they never took him in. He was always on the terrace, come rain or shine. I reported it to the local animal welfare team, who immediately spoke to the dog’s owners and sorted it all out.
