In a country with a population of 136 crores, Only 1 per cent of the Indian population pays income tax and declares earnings above the non-taxable income. The citizens of India don’t understand their responsibility towards the government and tax invasion is still the biggest roadblock for further development. With this in mind, this paper will go on to argue why every citizen should pay taxes if his or her income bracket is taxable and if he is able to.First of all, to start with, paying taxes is not a choice it is an obligation. You don’t pay tax because you want to and similarly, you don’t run away from paying tax because you have to. Every government has provisions and laws that state what shall happen to anyone who does not pay his or her taxes on time. The education system in India does not tech about taxes. Despite taking commerce in 12th there was no subject or course which gave us an idea regarding taxes. Yes, they teach us a little about how to account for taxes and a brief of direct and indirect taxes, but that’s about it. I started reading about taxes when one of my favourite vloggers was talking about how he wished his school told him what taxes were. Can you imagine being introduced to taxes by a foreign Vlogger?&nbsp; In the 1980s people had a reason to feel that tax was a burden as the tax rates were insanely high. There is a lack of respect for taxpayers and most taxpayers are treated harshly. It is because of these reasons that the number of taxpayers is not increasing and in fact even decreasing as fear of not knowing regarding taxes is keeping a lot of away from taxes. These factors hinder the public interest in pursuing their moral responsibilities, however, no one can run away from taxes and use this as an excuse to pay taxes. Paying taxes is an obligation and it is for the betterment of society. Many people tend to exploit the poor and the government is their only helping hand and we can help the government by paying taxes on time if we are capable of the same.To conclude, I believe that each and every one of us capable of paying our taxes must pay them.
