  • In 1866, Frenchman Paul Champion wrote about the Chinese drinking hot soya milk for breakfast.
  • In 1910, Chinese biologist and engineer Li Yu-Ying set up a dairy factory near Paris and patented "vegetable milk and its derivatives."
  • In 1956, the Plantmilk Society was founded in the UK to help create commercially viable plant milk. The final product was fortified with calcium, and vitamins B2, B12, and D2.
