In April 2017, Google announced that they would take measures to punish "low-quality content" like misleading information, offensive results, hoaxes and conspiracy theories.
At face value, it seems like a good idea to get rid of misinformation from their results. Most people would agree with the judgments they make. However, their good intentions can lead to a far worse outcome.

The algorithm restricts access to left-wing progressive websites, like The World Socialist Website. In turn, they believe they have been unfairly targeted by the new Google algorithm changes.
The decline is more likely due to poor SEO practices of the website than from any intentional punishment. However, because Google announced the change, a community of people feel like Google can’t be trusted to be a neutral portal to the web. As the number of people who feel this way increase in number, Google may lose market share.

Google and Facebook have the power to flag and penalise information out of existence. If you flag or penalise some results, you effectively censor them.
The consequence of making people feel unwelcome is that they will move elsewhere. Most people will fall into that category one time or another. For example, 63% of people think genetically modified food are unsafe, 50% don't believe climate change is caused by humans.
These ostracized people live among us. They are co-workers, family, neighbours. Together, they make up 90+% of the population.

This app is LOADED with RELEVANT, HELPFUL, AND EDUCATIONAL material. It is creatively intellectual, yet minimal enough to not overstimulate and create a learning block. I am exceptionally impressed with this app!
