Faithfulness as a Christian isn't a process that happens miraculously without our willful participation. We must put in the work even when we aren't in the mood. Prayer, Bible study, practicing gratitude and many other disciplines are for our own development into being faithful Christians.

Faithfulness In Spiritual Disciplines

It has been a minute since I wrote on this platform, so happy new year dear reader! No, seriously, it’s the first post in 2021 and I have to do due diligence. I trust you are hanging in there because in the second year of the corona virus, that’s enough. At this point I’m just so over trying to imagine life without this virus because jokes aside, it looks like life without it is becoming more and more of a dream than reality. I guess the most important thing is to stay sane and do the most we can, especially as mother’s. Though I must mention, being a mother in this new norm for me has been a blessing as well. I’ve watched my daughter grow, noticed every little Chang, development, learnt her behavioural patterns and so on because I spent all my time with her at home. I really have no regrets in that context. So anyway, I’ve been up to some reading. I must be honest though, it’s become a slower process to read and finish books because motherhood really takes up most of the time. I’m grateful though, that any chance I get, I try to expand some knowledge. The book I’m talking about was written by Glenna Marshall, titled, Everyday Faithfulness. I chose this book because I felt like there could never be a time when faithfulness to God on a daily basis is of more interest than now. Trying to be a great mother, do school, raise multiple streams of income and so on, really does take the time. Is it an attainable thing to live a life of faithfulness in such a demanding world? I’ll share a little so that you buy the book and read it for yourselves. I love how the author compares the life of faithfulness to gardening. To show that for a garden to produce vegetables, there must be work done from seedling to the harvest. Tilling, watering, weeding, composting and many more other necessary practices. Point being, you cannot just theow a seed into the earth and hope that one day you will come eat the fruit without putting in the work. Why then do we apply such flawed logic to our Christianity? Hoping that one day we’ll wake up having drifted to faithfulness miraculously, disregarding the small disciplines such as prayer, daily Bible study, disciplined time with God daily before starting on our duties, is a flawed way to look at life in Christ. The cycle of having good days of discipline and then followed by days of zero engagement will not miraculously evaporate, one has to put maximum effort and be intentional about this as a daily practice, then pray to God for helpwhere humanity fails. Look, this book goes deep into it, but I can’t go further else you won’t read it for yourself. So I’ll leave you with that gem of a thought to spark your curiosity.
