Sometimes, even when you fail to achieve your target, just the fact that you kept tracking lets you feel a good sense of progress, or bad about the lack of progress. That emotional feedback helps you maintain new habits for the long term.
Find a system that fits you, so you’re more likely to track your habits every day. And remember that whatever system you use, when starting new habits, ticking them all off daily for months on end is unlikely. Focus on improvement in the long-term, as opposed to perfection.
