  1. Yama requires observance of five negative moralities - avoidance of injury to others, of untruthfulness, of stealing, of incontinence, of gift-receiving (which brings obligations). 
  2. Niyama requires observance of five positive moralities - purity of body and mind, contentment, self-discipline, study, and devotion to God.
  3. Asana means right posture.
  4. Pranayama means control of prana, subtle life currents. 
  5. Pratyahara means withdrawal of the senses from external objects. 
  6. Dharana means concentration. 
  7. Dhyana means meditation. 
  8. Samadhi means superconscious perception.
