It’s easy to make short-term decisions that may be beneficial 10 minutes or 10 months from now, but these types of decisions usually don’t benefit us in the long-term. What’s harder is to make decisions that may not appear attractive or impactful in the short-term, but over time can have a positive impact in your life.

It is often believed that action needs to be preceded by motivation, which is preceded by inspiration. Not at all. It's the opposite: Action provides the Inspiration that gets you Motivated.

Your actions create the emotional reactions to motivate your future actions.Not the other way around.

Think big, Work Small

When it comes to scope & slicing we have teams who:

  1. ... only work big. Large, prescriptive projects with no incremental value delivery, no experimentation, and infrequent integration.
  2. ... only work small . They sprint in circles. The work lacks coherence and feels scattershot. Lots of reactive work.
  3. ... define big & work small . Large, prescriptive projects get broken into many small pieces . The team works small and integrates frequently, which reduces risk and accentuates progress. But there is little room to respond to learning and feedback.
  4. ... think big & work small . The team rallies behind a compelling mission linked to a coherent strategy. The mission is outcome/impact oriented. The team contemplates a vision for the holistic experience but works with broad strokes.
