A successful value proposition requires fit between what the company offers and what customers want.

Fit happens in three stages:

  1. On paper: You identify customer jobs, pains, and gains that you can address with your value proposition.
  2. In the market: Customers positively react to your value proposition and you get market traction.
  3. In the bank: You find a scalable and profitable business model.

Lean startup challenges
  • Most needle-moving projects don't have MVPs that are easy to make. They require more coordination and effort to test ideas.
  • You need discipline to constantly focus on building the right thing instead of building things right. It's fruitless to run fast in the wrong direction.
  • Split testing and optimization is great, but you quickly run out of low hanging fruit. Be careful not to go overboard with them. A/B tests won't help you invent the next iPhone.
