You’re sitting in traffic, late for an important meeting, watching the minutes tick away. Your hypothalamus, a tiny control tower in your brain, decides to send out the order: Send in the stress hormones! These stress hormones are the same ones that trigger your body’s “fight or flight” response. Your heart races, your breath quickens, and your muscles ready for action. This response was designed to protect your body in an emergency by preparing you to react quickly. But when the stress response keeps firing, day after day, it could put your health at serious risk.
I’m sick of it. Every year, regardless of the amount of pens I pack for school, I lose them all within a couple of weeks.
I've tried to prevent this from happening before. Last year, I packed two cases instead of 1, so I had double the amount of pens, but still I was out of pens within a few short weeks.
This year, I am taking a more tactiful approach. I've decided that my inability to keep my pens stems from my lack of care for them. I start the year with so many that I don't mind losing them.
Today, I packed 1 pen and 9 periods later, I still have it.
MINDSET SHIFT: Failure is not an option.
