Make Yourself Uncomfortable… Slowly

The one thing I learned from my research was that willpower on command is a lie. Saying to yourself that you are not going to eat that cookie just simply doesn’t work.Willpower is actually a muscle. And by being uncomfortable slowly, you are training your willpower muscle to grow.Willpower is highest in the morning and lowest in the afternoon. Do your willpower draining task as the first thing in the day.

Willpower Is NOT On COMMAND

Since willpower is a muscle, rest your willpower muscle with a healthy activity such as socializing with friends or family members or sleeping.Overeating can destroy your willpower. If something was guaranteed to you, would you worry about it? No, you wouldn’t. So when Allah says,“There is no moving creature on earth but that its sustenance lies with Allah” — Quran 11:6Why do you then worry about money? If money were to sustain humans, then no billionaire would die and no poor would live.Don’t choose that career because it has high-paying jobs. Choose what really interests you and makes you happy.

Why Worry?

Yes, it’s true that you have to do something in order to earn some money. The Most Powerful Habits

Reading is time-consuming, but instead of scrolling on Instagram for 20 minutes during your work break, pick up a book and read 2–5 pages. In a year, you will have read more than 1500 pages.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Read multiple books at a time ( if you want to )</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Not all books are meant to be read completely</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Skip through boring or repeated topics</li></ul>

You should start writing to change your life

We procrastinate for two reasons:<ol><li class="ql-align-justify">It’s too easy, I’ll do it later</li><li class="ql-align-justify">It’s too hard, I don’t want to do it</li></ol>The second happens mostly when you have a project without a deadline.The productive people see this as an opportunity. They force themselves to do the work. Not discipline themselves, but literally force themselves.

Start Procrastinating

To force yourself, spend your last $1000 on something that would benefit you like a course, or a bootcamp, or a software. Whatever it is, just spend all your money.Now you don’t have any money, but you do have the course, the bootcamp, or the software.Force yourself into Win or Die situation. Now you are forced to make money and you have a deadline

You can probably accomplish all your yearly goals in just a single 12 week year or 3 months. That’s a real deadline.<ul><li>Start a new project every 3 months so that you’re forced to work as hard as you can.</li><li>Work for 4 hours a day</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Lock yourself in a room and laser focus in on just 1 task a day</li></ul>What projects should you start every 3 months? Any project related to your One Thing.<ul><li>launch a course</li><li>a cohort</li><li>write an eBook</li><li class="ql-align-justify">make digital products</li></ul>

The 12 Week Year

<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Get up at 5:00 a.m</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Do your morning rituals & start your work by 5:30 a.m</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Remove the distractions & enter the Flow State</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Get up at exactly 9:30 a.m</li></ul>Work expands as you push your deadline. The deadlier the deadline, the more work you'll get done.

The 4 Hour Work Day

Don’t use social media for procrastination. All the successful people are specialists. All the happy people are generalists. What should you choose?

Should you specialize or generalize?

You don’t have a purpose until you write about it.<ul><li>Write down your current interests</li><li>Ask yourself, “What’s the One Thing you can do for the rest of your life such that it gives you the most amount of happiness?”</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Write down that purpose on a paper and put it on a wall</li></ul>Make a roadmap and a system out of it.

Determine your Purpose

Leave everything aside and start doing the work.<ul><li>Do your most important task as the first thing in the morning</li><li>Create a success list with just One Thing for the day such that if you accomplish it, it’ll move you towards your purpose</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Use the 10,000 hour rule to master your skill</li></ul>

Just Start

The 10,000 hour rule basically suggests that to become a master at any skill, you need to put in 10,000 hours, hit the ball 10,000 times, miss the ball 10,000 times.When you practice, the compound effect works. The more you do something, the more you get familiar with it and you start to improve at that thing.To achieve the 10,000 hours, you need to spend 4 hours a day for approximately 10 years to become a master.

As a born Muslim, I was told that all I had to do was Salah, Fasting, Charity and Hajj. But now after 17 years I have learned that  you cannot enter Paradise until you have a profound impact on the lives of others.

How I plan to change the world

The first step is to simply write all of your interests on a sheet of paper. Trust me this will work, because it did for me.Now imagine a day in your ideal future. Imagine the things you would be doing on that day and write them down to.Now remove everything from your interests list that doesn’t match with your future ideal day. The leftover interests are the ones you need to focus on. Using this method, I’m now focusing on only 4 of my interests.

Write them down

Now sort all of your remaining interests by priority. The most important one should be the first one.Ask yourself, “What’s the One Thing I can do everyday for the rest of my life such that it gives me the most amount of happiness?”. The answer you get is your main interest.

Sort them out

I call it the 5–2–1–0 hour rule, or in short, the Bin’s law.<ul><li>5 hours for your main interest</li><li>2 hours for a side hobby ( like a writing habit )</li><li>1 hour dedicated to learning something of your interests</li><li class="ql-align-justify">0 hours means to pursue something in your free time that doesn’t have much benefits but you would like to do it for your curiosity</li></ul>

Bin’s Law

Now you don’t want to change your main interest, because you set it as your main interest as it made you happy.Replace the 2 hours, 1 hour and the 0 hours interests as you like. Change them as many times as you like. It won’t affect you at all.This way you achieve mastery in One Thing and satisfy your desire to learn everything.

After watching so many professionals being expert at their fields, you would also want to be an expert in all the fields.If you really want to master something besides your main One Thing, then try to do it in the 2 hour period.After a week or two, you’ll realize that you don’t want to master it and that desire will go away.

How I focus and manage multiple interests

We use neural memory to remember everything. To build neural memory we need to build plasticity in our brain. Plasticity is formed when we commit errors.Errors are a very essential part of learning something. That’s why I recommend that before you watch an hour long tutorial,<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">you should start a project that motivated you to learn the skill</li><li class="ql-align-justify">learn along the way as you build your project</li><li class="ql-align-justify">make errors to build plasticity</li><li class="ql-align-justify">and then search for a tutorial to do that specific thing</li></ul>

Neural Memory

You might get frustrated while building the project because you don’t know anything and it looks hard but it eventually gets easy.Andrew Huberman recommends getting frustrated because then, when you overcome the frustration, dopamine is released in your brain which gives a sense of accomplishment, which then drives you to do more.

Andrew Huberman also recommends taking a nap for 20 minutes after learning which helps the neurons register information in our brain.If you aren’t a napping person like me, then you should get a good night deep sleep. I sleep around 9 hours and that fits with me. It’s different with every person.Taking a 10 sec gap while staring at something and completely emptying your mind, with irregular intervals of about 50–60 will help boost your learning process.

The 20 hour rule states that to get better at 80% of the people at that skill, you only need the first 20 hours.In that 20 hours you should learn using the Pareto’s principle which states that 80% of the results can be achieved by 20% of the work.

It is also recommended to make a roadmap before you start learning. And from that roadmap, you should do the 20% of the work.This is the most crucial step. I made the mistake of thinking I know what to do but I kept switching from one path to another.
