What are Radio Telescopes? - National Radio Astronomy Observatory - Deepstash

What does a radio telescope do?

Objects in space give off a variety of electromagnetic waves, such as light waves, radio waves and X-rays.

A radio telescope detects radio waves coming from space. It can also detect quasars and other objects that cannot be seen with an optical telescope (one that collects light waves).

A radio telescope has a large dish aerial that collects radio waves and bounces them into a receiver, which converts them into electrical signals.
