What started with a single male and 3 females is now classified as an "invasive species" of 80 Hippos. Highly territorial, they can reach 20 mph on land, taking out anything in its path including lions and about 500 people each year.
Without the natural breeding constraints provided by seasonal conditions in Africa, their numbers have grown expeditiously.
Castration is dangerous, expensive and difficult. When one was culled, there was a public outcry. Having no experience of the true danger and influenced heavily by Disney images, it seems Hippopotamus Escobaris isn't going anywhere.
