"Digital Fentanyl”

In a Sunday interview with NBC, Mike Gallagher, a Republican and the incoming chairman of a new House of Representatives select committee on China, called TikTok “digital fentanyl” because “it’s highly addictive and destructive and we’re seeing troubling data about the corrosive impact of constant social media use”.

He alleged that the app “effectively goes back to the Chinese Communist Party”, adding to ongoing accusations from US politicians about its data security.
