Even More On Jesus On Religious Leaders

“‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me. But in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.” ‭‭Matt ‭15‬:‭8‬-‭9‬

So to give a bit of an explanation with these verses, Christians believe Jesus here is making a claim about how we connect with God. That it’s a heart posture, not a behavioral one. We cannot win God’s approval through how good we look to others or what we do for the church or etc. Our connection to God comes from our heart being for Him and His glory and humbling ourselves.

”whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.” 23:12

“For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.””

People will often say that Christianity is a relationship, not a religion. Lots of times, the reason is to get away from the negative connotation that the word ‘religion’ has (oppressive, strict, closed-minded, hateful, etc.), but there’s more to it than one might think. Let’s get into it.
