Let's say you have a favorite color, like blue, but your friend really likes red. If you tell your friend that you like red too, even though you don't really, that's being fake. It's like pretending to be something you're not.
Being fake means not being honest about what you really think or feel. It's important to be honest with yourself and others, but sometimes we might say things we don't really mean to be polite or avoid hurting someone's feelings, to be kind to others.
