With the structure and melody in mind, start writing lyrics that fit both the theme and the melodic contours. Pay attention to rhyme schemes, syllable counts, and how the lyrics flow with the rhythm. I have always used a 16 bar method:
Use sets of 4 bars to create sets of ideas that tie into the same mood. An instrument solo can trade fours, play a full sixteen bars, change the pace and mood after every idea, or create backgrounds for the song’s main sounds.
