These friends turned out to be negative influences on him. The friends would gravitate to the same behaviors and the same kinds of people no matter how far away from home they were
Peterson said, "such people don't believe that they deserve better, so they don't go looking for it." Freud called this a "repetition compulsion.'
A person needs to choose friends that push them to be the best possible version of themselves and avoid those that wish to remain stagnant.
