In 1871 after a brief war with the French known as the Franco-Prussian War, the Prussian high officials proclaimed the new German Empire in the hall of mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. This new German Empire spanned from modern day Kaliningrad all the way to the Alsace-Lorraine region of France. This new powerhouse of a nation would ultimately upset the balance of power in Europe.
