We live in an information based society and for so many people the only results of our work is more intangible information. It is important we "produce" something tangible so we can appreciate the fruits of our labors. If our work and careers don't provide this physical component, our hobbies need to. The process of production and appreciation of the end result is what makes labor worthwhile.
