Self-sabotaging Habits I Do In Creative Work And Creating Art

Finding myself settling for 1- irrelevent subjects to draw and in vain, and 2- practicing skills i already nailed down before or are below my level. Both of these factors result in me ending up with no products of value. It's like i'm always expecting i'll be met with either of two end possibilities after finishing an art work: disappointment after low expectations, or failure after high expectations.. and i mostly choose the first option by setting myself up to disappointment and dissatisfaction. I guess i could call this the comfort zone but all what's there is mediocre work below my level
