Geoffrey Hinton, one of the pioneers of AI, believes AI could surpass human intelligence in 5 to 20 years. That's a pretty short time frame, and what happens after that is unpredictable. Some experts think AI will follow human-set goals. Others worry AI might develop its own, and we won't be able to control it. The fact that AI can instantly share knowledge across copies gives it a huge advantage over humans, making it a superior form of intelligence.

Governments aren't doing much to regulate AI in military applications. The competition between countries like China, Russia, and the West is only speeding up AI development, making safety an afterthought.
