The Earth is at 0.7 on the Kardashev scale. While the jump has been significant in the last 200 years the number has been stagnant for the past 50. This is an argument for a great planetary stagnation.
We could have been a planetary civilization in terms of energy output if we had embraced and developed nuclear energy. We could have lived the future the Jetsons predicted. But fears of nuclear bombs made nuclear a political debate and we stayed on fosil fuels and renewables.
