Over time, various astronomers have studied supernovae and distant galaxies in order to observe the expansion of the universe.
While researching, these scientists still had a set of expectations. One of these expectations was that the universe expanded at a constant rate.
Much to their surprise, they noticed that the universe was expanding exponentially. This is very significant because up until now, scientists were under the assumption that the universe was not able to expanding this rapidly.
Dark Energy serves as the reason why the universe is expanding exponentially and not linearly.
