The term ‘cultural linguistics’ may be used to refer to the general area of research on the relationship between language and culture, which dates back at least to the work of influential scholars such as Wilhelm Von Humboldt (1767–1835) and later Franz Boas (1858–1942), Edward Sapir (1884–1939), and Benjamin Whorf (1897– 1941).
