A black hole is a region in space where gravity is so strong that nothing, including light, can escape. Black holes are created when massive stars collapse at the end of their lives. There is no escape and all paths lead to the singularity at the center of the black hole; essentially, it maps out the causal structure of spacetime near a black hole, making it clear that time and space become highly distorted within the event horizon, with the singularity appearing as a point in the future light cone for anything that enters the black hole.
