Staying connected with basic shapes

Keeping your stones connected is the first important beginner lesson. This can mean more than placing adjecent stones (nobi). These are the basic shapes:

  • One point jump (ikken tobi) or two point jumps (nikken horaki): On straight lines one or two position away are good moves.
  • Diagonal (kosumi)
  • Small or the large knight (keima & ogeima) moves can be connected if closer to the edge.
