It arose more out of recognition that ultimately all individuals are manifestations or moments of the Brahman.

Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was born in Allabahad on November 14, 1889. He received his early education at home under private tutors. At the age of fifteen, he went to England and after two years at Harrow, joined Cambridge University where he took his tripos in Natural Sciences. He was later called to the Bar from Inner Temple. He returned to India in 1912 and plunged straight into politics. Even as a student, he had been interested in the struggle of all nations who suffered under foreign domination. He took keen interest in the Sinn Fein Movement in Ireland.

Jawaharlal Nehru Biography. 

In India, he was inevitably drawn into the struggle for independence.In 1912, he attended the Bankipore Congress as a delegate, and became Secretary of the Home Rule League, Allahabad in 1919. In 1916 he had his first meeting with Mahatma Gandhi and felt immensely inspired by him. He organised the first Kisan March in Pratapgarh District of Uttar Pradesh in 1920. He was twice imprisoned in connection with the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1920-22.Pt. Nehru became the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee in September 1923.

He toured Italy, Switzerland, England, Belgium, Germany and Russia in 1926. In Belgium, he attended the Congress of Oppressed Nationalities in Brussels as an official delegate of the Indian National Congress. He also attended the tenth anniversary celebrations of the October Socialist Revolution in Moscow in 1927. Earlier, in 1926, at the Madras Congress, Nehru had been instrumental in committing the Congress to the goal of Independence. While leading a procession against the Simon commission, he was lathi-charged in Lucknow in 1928. On August 29, 1928 he attended the All-Party Congress.

and was one of the signatories to the Nehru Report on Indian Constitutional Reform, named after his father Shri Motilal Nehru. The same year, he also founded the ‘Independence for India League’, which advocated complete severance of the British connection with India, and became its General Secretary.In 1929, Pt. Nehru was elected President of the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress, where complete independence for the country was adopted as the goal. He was imprisoned several times during 1930-35 in connection with the Salt Satyagraha and other movements launched by the Congress.

He completed his ‘Autobiography’ in Almora Jail on February 14, 1935. After release, he flew to Switzerland to see his ailing wife and visited London in February-March, 1936. He also visited Spain in July 1938, when the country was in the throws of Civil War. Just before the court-break of the Second World War, he visited China too.On October 31, 1940 Pt. Nehru was arrested for offering individual Satyagraha to protest against India’s forced participation in war. He was released along with the other leaders in December 1941.

On August 7, 1942 Pt. Nehru moved the historic ‘Quit India’ resolution at the A.I.C.C. session in Bombay. On August 8,1942 he was arrested along with other leaders and taken to Ahmednagar Fort. This was his longest and also his last detention. In all, he suffered imprisonment nine times. After his release in January 1945, he organized legal defence for those officers and men of the INA charged with treason. In March 1946, Pt. Nehru toured South East Asia. He was elected President of the Congress for the fourth time on July 6, 1946 and again for three more terms from 1951 to 1954.

Jawaharlal Nehru has won the admiration of the people of India and the world as a national leader, as a writer, as a humanist etc. Anyone who wishes to understand the controversial aspects of his personality would do well to peruse this biography. This work also traces the history of the freedom movement in India.The occasional glimpses of the family life of Nehru are enlivening. He was the most remarkable statesman, a man who enthralled everyone with his magical personality; a leader who was literally hero-worshipped and an orator of the order, who, once he climbed the rostrum and took the microphone in his hand, became one with the audience and held them spellbound. The colourful and complex personality of Nehru is viewed through Indian eyes a fact which makes the book all the more interesting.

We’ve all heard the saying, “think outside of your box.” The saying has become synonymous with creative thinking and being innovative. Obviously, this quality often proves beneficial to people trying to push themselves. This short story is one of the best examples of thinking outside of the box, which can be downright amazing.It begins in a small Italian town, hundreds of years ago. A small business owner found himself in a large amount of debt to a money loan-shark who was old and unattractive.The shark-loan was interested in the business owner’s daughter.

Black And White Pebbles.

Of course, this meant that he offered the businessman a deal: he would eliminate the debt if he could marry the businessman’s daughter.This proposal was not desirable for either the daughter nor the businessman and was met with disgust.However, it came with a twist. The loan-shark would place two pebbles into a bag, one would be white, and one would be black. The daughter would then be told to reach into the bag and pick out a pebble.If the daughter picked the black pebble, the debt would be wiped, but the loan shark would marry her.

If the daughter chose the white pebble, the debt would be also wiped, but the daughter would not have to marry the loan-shark. The latter being the desirable outcome for both daughter and businessman.As the loan-shark picked up the two pebbles, the daughter noticed that he had picked up two black stones, in an attempt to guarantee his plan.The daughter then had three choices:1) Refuse altogether to pick any pebble from the bag.2)Expose the two black pebbles and loan-shark for cheating.3)Pick a pebble, which would determine her horrid fate.

The daughter, thinking outside of the box, drew out a pebble and decided to drop the stones “accidentally” on the ground into the midst of the other pebbles. She then told the loan-shark that it didn’t matter, as they would all be able to decipher which pebble she picked, by looking at the pebbled left in the other bag.The loan-shark did not want to be exposed and played along with the fact that the daughter had picked a white pebble. The debt was wiped, and the daughter didn’t have to marry the loan-shark.

The takeaway of the story: "Moral"Use your creative thinking. You can always overcome a tough situation, by stepping outside of the box which it is confined to. You may think you have limited options, but there are creative ways to get around it.

A merchant in Persia, received a gift from his friend. It was a green parrot in a beautiful golden cage. “I got this talking parrot especially for you from India. Just feed this parrot chilies and hear its beautiful songs,” said the friend.One day, the merchant announced that he would be going on a trip to India. “What does everyone want?”“Bring me a beautiful silk cloth,” said his wife.“Toys! I want a toy cart which can follow me wherever I go,” said his daughter.The merchant turned to the parrot, “What about you my friend? What do you want?”

The parrot sighed, “Master, if you see green parrots in India, will you please inform them that I alive and well? Tell them that I live in a big house in Persia in a cage.”The merchant promised to pass on the message and left.After finishing all his work in India, the merchant visited a garden. He came across a group of parrots. He walked up to them, “Friend parrots, I bring a message to you from one of your sisters. She was trapped here in India. But she now lives with me.”One of the parrots flew and landed on the merchant’s shoulder. “Is that so?” it said, “We hope she is safe.”

“Oh yes! She lives in a beautiful golden cage. I feed her tasty food. She wanted you to know that she is alive and well,” said the merchant.Hearing this, the parrot sitting on the merchant’s shoulder shivered and fell to the ground. The merchant was alarmed and tried wake up the parrot. But it lay still!“What have I done?” he cried, “All I wanted to do was pass on a message. I didn’t know this parrot would die!”The merchant slowly got up and left for home.He was greeted at the door by his wife and daughter. He gave them the gifts he had brought for them. Then he turned to the parrot.

“Did you pass on the message to my friends? What did they say?” asked the parrot excitedly.“I delivered the message like you asked me to. But after listening to it, one of your friends shivered and fell to the ground. I am afraid your friend died. I am so sorry,” said the merchant sadly.The parrot went still. And then she too shivered and fell. The merchant cried out, “Oh my God! Why is this happening?”He opened the cage door and gently lifted the parrot out. He felt sorry for his beloved bird.He took the bird out to the garden to bury it.After digging the hole, he turned to lift the bird.

Just then, the parrot sat up and flew to on a neareby wall.As the merchant turned to lift the bird, it sat up and flew away. The merchant was pleasantly surprised!The merchant was both shocked and happy. “Friend parrot, I am so happy you are alive. But why did you fall down?”“The parrot who fell down wasn’t actually dead. She was sending me a message,” said the parrot with a smile, “The open sky is any day better than a golden cage. She also showed the way to escape the cage.”

“I never realised that you were sad in the cage,” said the merchant, “Fly away, my friend. Fill the world with your beautiful song.”The parrot flapped its wings and flew towards the open sky.

The child belongs to whoever drags him over to her side.”The woman in red sari pulled the child hard with all her might. As the child cried in pain, the other woman, let him go.“He is mine,” the woman in the red sari shouted in triumph, even as the other woman broke down in tears.“Wait,” said the wise man turning to the villagers, “Who do you think loves the child more? She who pulled the child to her side or the one who let the child go?”The villagers answered, “She who let go loves the child more.”

The wise man took the child away from the woman in the red sari. “Only a mother can have a tender heart for her child,” he said.He handed the child over to the real mother who hugged the child. The child lifter was given a strict warning and allowed to go.
