NO! Not always!
Being selfless means giving people the opportunity to take advantage of you. Be good and do good, but also set boundaries when it comes to helping others who are capable. It doesn't always have to involve money; it could be assisting with a specific task, providing useful information, or encouraging them to help others in different ways.

Should good people have to be selfless?

Remember, when you help people, they can either turn out to be helpful to you, do harm to you, or do nothing at all. So when you help others, don't expect to be rewarded in return.

The dog you saved may bite

So what if the dog bites? I was just saying not to expect only positive outcomes; consider the possibility that things may turn against you. So what? Do good even if that happens.

Have the courage to face the odds

As I mentioned before, those you help may become your enemies or cause you harm. 
Be prepared for such situations; otherwise, you'll be left scared.

Don't forget to be prepared for the worst

The above advice is for those who are not yet your foes. However, you may still consider helping your enemies if they are in dire situations. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

Don't help all the time!

Be ready to be called "foolish" or "mad" by the masses.

Embrace criticism
