When McCall says, "There are two kinds of pain in this world; pain that hurts, and pain that alters," he is highlighting the distinction between immediate, tangible pain and deeper, transformative pain.

The Two Kinds Of Pain

The pain that hurts may refer to the physical and emotional suffering that individuals experience in their everyday lives. It may include physical injuries, heartbreak, disappointment, or trauma. This type of pain is immediate and can be intense, but it doesn't necessarily change a person in a profound way.

The Pain That Hurts

On the other hand, the pain that alters refers to the kind of pain that leaves a lasting impact on a person's life. This could include the loss of a loved one, a life-altering decision, a personal tragedy, or a moment of realization that leads to personal growth.

The Pain That Alters

This type of pain should be the one to choose and can lead to personal growth, self-reflection, and a reevaluation of one's priorities and values. In essence, McCall's statement reflects the idea that pain is an inevitable part of life, but it is how we respond to and learn from that pain that determines our personal growth and transformation.
