We are selfish, we do things that make us happy for ourselves. Not for others. We may appear doing things for others, it makes our own self happy. We do it for our own happiness of "being good" or helping others achieve.
The state of mind drives happiness. The same event or environment can be perceived differently by different people. 90% of the happiness is internal. Others around you might enjoy themselves. Only what's inside you prevent it.
The thought itself of the feeling triggers the deeper emotion. Nourish positive thoughts to trigger positive emotions.
