Moments of happiness are obtained by comparing them with moments of sadness.
You cannot be happy without previously experiencing a symmetric sadness. Without the sadness, you will not be able to identify what feels good.
Actually, moments of sadness are a predictor for happiness.
This explains why sometimes poor people are happier than very rich people. Rich people increased the threshold of feeling happy and they should add over that threshold in order to feel happy again. With a lower threshold, it is easier to achieve happiness.
