The average sum of good and bad feelings is constant. It is zero.

If you are trying to always be happy, you are simply following an illusion. This is why social media does not help your brain. We are forced to replicate the level of happiness seen online, a fake happiness.

Think about an entire day when you did not have anything to do and then go to a party. Compare it with a day when you had things to resolve and then went to the party.

Which one of the parties felt better?

Of course the one after a hard day. The average of feelings is constant, but you concentrated your happiness on the end - and it felt better & more natural - expectations were better met.
