Pain

Seeking help for a pain or suffering is implicit and explicit.

A Patient cannot remain at the same level of contentment if the dynamics of his illness are progressive. The patient is satisfied for as long as the progression doesn't bring more pain or suffering. A forever happy patient is an illusion most of the doctors wished to be true. But he does not exist .

The pain one can endure may have a finite value but the suffering due to the same amount of pain varies from person to person, depending on many factors. The suffering one has to endure can definitely be reduced for the same amount of pain.

We often find someone around us who is visibly upset , in pain or behaving unusually. What should we do , are we crossing our boundaries when we offer help or a friendly shoulder to cry. The boundaries around us often become fluid when we need help, a human touch, some consolation, company, or a simple urge to talk. It's painful if we are not allowed to talk in our mother tongue for a stretch of time. And it is a bliss if we find a soul to do so in an unexpected place.

What we see and feel at a tender age is what mostly we emulate later in life. It may be tempered by our life experiences and our basic nature. To be able to become sensitive to someone else's pain, we need to be sensitive to our own.

If it were not for the labour pains, our mothers wouldn't have bored us down and brought us successfully into this world. Pain is the ultimate guiding light during a Normal birth. It grips the hands of a mother for as long she is traversing the path, and at the summit of the tunnel when the pain is bidding her goodbye, there is a beautiful part of herself greeting her with a cry.
