The more you try to do...

...the less gets done. As described by Oliver Burkeman in his book "Four Thousand Weeks", the 'harder you struggle to fit everything in, the more of your time you'll find yourself spending on the least meaningful things'. In my experience, this could apply equally well to a single project or task: the more you overengineer things, the more likely it is that the end product wasn't what was required. Remember the meme with the tree swing? Occam's Razor is a good mental model for overcoming the instinct to overcomplicate.
