Nowadays, writers would describe the bigger picture of the background or the setting in a scene due to the rising number of casual readers, so everything was kept simple.
But there is a beauty in Verne's work; which was how detailed and well written his descriptions that let us, the readers able to perfectly imagine what was in a certain scene. Although it made the book more complex, but it helps to train how you imagine detailed things and to really feel the scene in the book.
