Cigarette isn't a healthy desire. You will get irritated without it. A cup of tea maybe a healthy desire. You won't get irritated without it. The thing is to develop healthy desires. Which can be toggled when needed. If you have an unhealthy desire like sleeping in the afternoon, and you have it bad, you can't live without it, then just drop it for a month. Go for a walk or read a book.
