Distance learning as an alternative

Universities started offering distance learning options. Then, in the 1960s, the Open University took the idea further and offered a reputable alternative to traditional learning methods.

The internet transformed distance learning, making it cheaper and faster. The first online course started in 1984. The pandemic in 2020 caused school closure, which meant more students had the opportunity to turn to distance learning.
