Coal fires can’t just be “put out”

Generally, coal fire is challenging to deal with and is near impossible to put out. On a ship in tight quarters, it’s even more difficult.

The area in the coal bunker where the fire broke out was next to the main bulkhead of the ship. According to the coal stokers and firefighters aboard the Titanic, the fire damaged one of the bulkheads. Unfortunately, nothing was done to address the damage.
