There is a reliably observed effect, named after its original observer as the Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes the cognitive bias that individuals with low ability at a task are the most likely to overestimate their performance.

These people simply fail to recognize their lack of ability making them incapable to objectively evaluate their own competence.
