Introduced as a safe new sleeping pill, "Z drugs" are possibly more devastating than any drug ever.
In the 1960s, there were barbiturates, such as Seconal and Tuinal. However these were found to be addictive and have a high chance of overdose. The lethal injection ingredient Pentobarbital illustrates this.
Benzodiazepines were found to be a safer alternative. These include Valium (Diazepam), Klonopin (Clonazepam) and Xanax (Alprazolam). But those are used to treat anxiety disorders. Nitrazepam (Mogadon) and Temazepam (Normison) are hypnotics, but benzodiazepines created their own set of dramas
