Lake Baikal, located in southern Siberia, is the largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, containing roughly 20% of the world's unfrozen freshwater. It is also one of the oldest and deepest lakes in the world, with a maximum depth of over 1,600 meters.
Lake Baikal is also known for its crystal-clear waters, which provide a glimpse into the underwater world below. The lake is home to over 3,000 species of plants and animals, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.
The surrounding region is also home to a number of hot springs, which are believed to have therapeutic properties.
