14. They use analogies.

They are often talked about as helpful study techniques. 

Try to make a deliberate effort to teach what you learn to someone else and, in doing so, you will likely be forced to explain concepts with relatable metaphors and analogies.

When we deconstruct analogies, we find out why they function so effectively.

Analogies meet five criteria:

• Use the highly familiar to explain something less familiar.
• Highlight similarities and obscure differences.
• Identify useful abstractions.

• Relying on experience from a single domain is limiting. Going from the “inside view” to the “outside view”, i.e. switching the mindset from narrow to broad, is the practice of looking outside of the surface features of a project for structurally-similar analogies.
