You may not have confidence in yourself and are afraid to say things because you might be wrong, but trying is always better, even if you fail.
Usually, people forget things that happened in a couple minutes or even in a matter of seconds. So if you do mess something up, getting back on track is all you need to do.
Or, think about this: you may have seen a person in public doing something strange, but you usually don't care or forget it in about 10 seconds. Why would people respond differently to you?
