Generally speaking, if they're interested, they'll learn better, focus more, and actually take something away from the conversation. 

Some people want you to do the work for them and can't be bothered with learning. Before you start, ask them if they want to learn.

In a situation where you are sure you want to quit, put your energy into growing. Take advantage of the situation by, for example, learning how not to lead or how to work well as a team.

Then, when an opportunity presents itself, move on.

If you cannot find a learning buddy ( a partner that is willing to commit to only speaking in a foreign language with you), hire a tutor.
