This is when the abuser purposely ignores the victim by refusing to communicate when they (the victim) is trying to communicate, by pretending that they don't or never existed.
This behaviour may range from just sulking to malevolent abusive controlling behaviour as it can leave significant psychological and emotional repercussions on the person on the receiving end. Because, being left in silence can be extremely painful and can leave the victims questioning "what really happened?" or "what have I done wrong?".
