My reccomendation is using it for concepts and facts that need to be memorized first before anything else.

This technique involves imagining the words, making them visual. Like "tree" we think of a tree. Imagery is so simple but effective, a lot of people read and don't understand because they don't apply this! <ul><li>Imagine the concept in your head, it will store it since it is a visual and easy to remember. </li></ul>Happy about the techniques? Highlighting or underlining random texts and remembering them is a form of distinction. Making information stand out, one more eye-catching than the other making it more valuable for the memory. For example:<ul><li>The information and persuasiveness of a book determines it's value. </li></ul>The word 'book' is bold while 'information' and 'persuasiveness' is underlined. To stand out than the other words.

Distinctiveness

Encoding is the means of inputting information in the long-term memory. There are many techniques in this catergory here is the map of techniques:<ul><li>Distinctiveness</li><li>Imagery</li><li>Memory traces</li></ul>Keep in mind there are many more encoding tricks that exists, I just picked the simplest and effective ones! This principle is really helpful when your tests are long like 3-4 pages (it stores in long memory)

The TestWhen you take the test, it's not filled with passive reading. It's filled with questions needing you to recall the information.

The basics of studying, are these simple yet highly effective principles. Finally the last technique of encoding is memory traces. This is where you put the information in a variety of memories through your senses, acting, or anything.
