Spiritual Disciplines

Discipline without direction is a chore, and spiritual disciplines are no exception to this rule.

First of all, we need to understand what we will become.

 The Bible says the following about God's elect: "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son." —Romans 8:29.

Question: Why talk about discipline? If God predestined us to be like Christ, what is the role of discipline?

Although we will be like Christ when He will return, God wants us to grow in this likeness to Christ. We must not wait for holiness, but we must follow it.

We can find an argument for this in Hebrews 12:14 - "Seek peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord."

Explanation of the argument used - Without holiness - that is, without resemblance to Christ - no one will see the Lord, no matter how many times he went to church, or how much he became involved in religious activities or how spiritual he considered himself to be.
